For over 15 years Loreburn Archers has been shooting at the Crichton Playing Fields in Dumfries. Every summer between 7pm and 9pm on a Tuesday night the Club will set up their equipment and shoot towards the banking at the end of the field.
Over the years we have had some disputes with people looking to use the field at the time we are shooting. We have had to explain that under the clubs insurance we are not allowed to have anyone in front of the shooting line whilst we are shooting. The Club pays to rent the entire field for these 2 hours a week and therefore has exclusive use.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been finding it hard to ask people to move from the field to allow us to shoot. More worryingly, we have had a high number of people completely ignoring the ‘DANGER ARCHERY KEEP OUT” signs that are placed at every entrance to the field and walking onto the field whilst we are shooting. Adults and children wanting to play football, dog walkers or people who are just out for a walk around the estate. It is surprising how many people assume that it is safe to walk onto the field and go behind the targets. Archery is an extremely dangerous sport and we really do not want to see anyone or any animals being seriously injured.
All we ask is for people to stay off the field for those two hours a week and respect the Club and their own safety.
Thanks, Team Loreburn Archers
