Come and Try

Home » Come and Try

Experienced senior members of the club organise and run archery Come and Try Sessions at galas, fêtes and charity events.

For insurance purposes, these Come-and-Try sessions need to be booked in advance by the Event organiser. The Event site may require a visit by club members prior to the day to ensure a suitable, safe, roped-off area has been set aside for shooting. The club members will also need to know if first aid will be available on site in case of accidents.

Unfortunately we are not able to do weddings, parties or any private functions.

The Come and Try sessions are staffed by experienced senior club members who volunteer to give up their time for the promotion of the sport of archery. All club members are affiliated to the national governing body, Archery GB, through which insurance for the Come and Try session is provided.

The public will use training bows up to a maximum of 12 – 25 lbs draw weight. They will shoot at targets no more than 10 yards away from a shooting line and we normally provide three to five targets at each event.

The public wait before being called forward in turn to the shooting line. They shoot 6 arrows one at a time under instruction from the club member. After having shot their 6 arrows the participant returns to the waiting line.

People can come back time and time again to have a go if they wish, there is no limit to how many times they shoot. We try and make it fair by limiting each person to 6 arrows at a time.

We want people of all ages to have a go, enjoy shooting some arrows and maybe become interested in taking up the sport.

There is no upper age limit for participants and we will assist children as young as 5 years old to shoot. No matter what age the participant is, safety is always our prime concern.

Normally event organisers pay the club a one-off fee for running the Come and Try session for the day. However occasionally the club is asked to host a session where the public pay to shoot 6 arrows at a time.

Any money raised go into club funds to further the participation in, and practice of, the sport of archery. If you would like to enquire about us coming along, get in touch and we will get back to you as soon as we possible.
